Ukrainian refugees arriving in Los Angeles need support, and IILA is here to help! 

Every day, IILA receives requests from newly arrived Ukrainians asking for help. Most of these applications are processed by the Preferred Communities Ukrainian team. This program provides one-time financial assistance and basic case management.

“There were days when I received 30-40 letters from Ukrainians every day. We really want to help everyone as soon as possible, but each case needs time to process,” said Hasmik Stepanyan, case manager of the Preferred Communities program. Since the beginning of the program, the team has processed hundreds of cases.

Now the appeals have decreased a little, but there are still a lot of them. Each case is considered individually. Clients need to present certain documents. After the case is processed, families in need receive a check.

Most often, clients learn about this program from each other, but at the same time, IILA also conducts activities to inform and advise Ukrainian clients on various important issues.

“I believe that our support will make it easier for Ukrainians to start in a new country. It’s never easy, especially when you’re a refugee, but we try to do our best,” says Hasmik Ktoian, IILA’s Director of Refugee Services.

Information for Ukrainian clients

In order to receive this assistance, please take the following steps:

  1. Check if your address falls within the IILA service area: Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside, Ventura and Kern counties.
  2. Prepare brief information about yourself: your name, mobile number, current address, a copy of the page with the parole stamp in your passport.
  3. If you speak Ukrainian or Russian, write an email with this information to Hasmik Stepanyan at hstepanyan@iilosangeles.org.
  4. If you speak at least basic English, write an email to Ani Arabadjyan: aarabadjyan@iilosangeles.org.
