As thousands of Afghan citizens who assisted US forces attempted to flee Afghanistan a year ago, Major Tom Schueman was fighting a behind-the-scenes battle to help Zainullah Zaki (Zak), an Afghan interpreter who served with Major Schueman, escape with his family.

IILA is proud to partner with Los Angeles World Affairs Council & Town Hall for their upcoming event where Major Schueman will discuss his new book, Always Faithful: A Story of the War in Afghanistan, the Fall of Kabul, and the Unshakeable Bond Between a Marine and an Interpreter, co-authored with Zak.

The book is a moving firsthand account of the friendship between Major Schueman and Zak, their deep bond forged through service, and the intense journey they took to bring Zak to America.
