White House authorizes emergency funds for Afghan refugees

International Institute of Los Angeles applauds the Biden administration’s recent authorization to increase funding to aid Afghan refugees. In particular, it is critical to expand special immigrant visas for those who are at risk of retaliation from the Taliban for assisting the US government.
 
There is bipartisan support that could further increase funding for evacuation, relocation, and resettlement of Afghan applicants and their families. Increased funding for these efforts is critical and urgent as violence increases against interpreters and other Afghan civilians.
