VOLUNTEER DRIVERS & HELPERS NEEDED!

Volunteer Drivers and helpers are needed to deliver meals to homebound seniors for the 19th Annual Thanksgiving Day Dinner sponsored by the City of Los Angeles Department of Aging.

Throughout the City of Los Angeles several thousand homebound seniors will receive a traditional Thanksgiving holiday meal made possible thanks to the support of hundreds of volunteer drivers and helpers that make these deliveries possible. In the City’s Eastside, the International Institute of Los Angeles (IILA), Senior Services Division, supports the City’s efforts to feed homebound seniors, by recruiting volunteers and organizing the meal deliveries.

To be a Driver,

• You must be18 years of age or older (No age limit for helpers. School aged children are welcome to help their parents)
• Have a vehicle to deliver meals
• Possess a valid California driver’s license and have vehicle insurance (volunteer drivers will be required to present their valid driver’s license and show proof of insurance prior to receiving a delivery route.)

On Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 23rd, 2006, each volunteer driver will be given a short route of approximately seven (7) delivery stops. Volunteers must arrive at IILA by 9:00 a.m. and will end their volunteer service by 11:30 a.m. All meals to be delivered in the IILA Eastside Service Area include the communities of Boyle Heights, El Sereno, Lincoln Heights, Montecito Heights, Monterey Hills, Mt. Washington, Cypress Park, Glassell Park, Highland Park and Eagle Rock.

If you are interested in becoming a Thanksgiving Day volunteer and are committed to come in on the holiday to offer your services you may contact IILA Senior Services Division at (323) 264-6210 or e-mail us here. The deadline to register as a volunteer is November 14th. If calling in, be sure to inform the receptionist that you are calling to register as a Thanksgiving Day volunteer. Please provide your phone number with area code where you may be reached between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A staff member will be contacting you to answer any questions you may have and will confirm your volunteer participation at that time. A letter will also be mailed to each volunteer driver providing all the particulars for the Thanksgiving Day Meal Delivery event.

Thank you for considering this volunteer opportunity, and we look forward to hearing from you. Have a Happy Thanksgiving Holiday!
